Imagine experiencing something so unique, so extraordinary, that almost no one else in history ever has, or ever will. That's exactly what Robert Pattinson recently described about filming Dune: Part Three – and it's enough to make any film fan's jaw drop!
So, what exactly did the Batman star have to say about his time on set? While details about his specific role are still shrouded in mystery (he's rumored to be playing the villainous Scytale, a character known for his shapeshifting abilities in Frank Herbert's novels), Pattinson couldn't help but gush about the sheer uniqueness of the experience.
"You’ll never experience these things in any other profession,” Pattinson confessed in a recent interview with GQ. “I mean, literally, I was experiencing things which hardly anybody in history has or will ever experience, and it’s just absolutely incredible.” Think about that for a second. What could be happening on that set that's so unique?
But here's where it gets controversial... Could Pattinson's comments hint at some truly mind-bending special effects or set pieces that push the boundaries of filmmaking? He even shared a fun anecdote about working with Zendaya again, who reprises her role as Chani. Pattinson recalled a moment of realization while filming a scene with her in the desert. "Being out in the desert shooting Dune, it’s weird,” Pattinson said. “I remember shooting a scene with Zendaya, the first scene we shot together out in the desert, I’m like, ‘Oh! We’re, like, in Dune!’ And she’s like, ‘Yeah . . . we’re doing a Dune movie.’ But it really was like, ‘It really feels like you’re in a Dune movie.’ It was really, really fun.” This captures the immersive and surreal nature of bringing Herbert's world to life.
Dune: Part Three will see Timothée Chalamet returning as Paul Atreides, picking up the story 15 to 20 years after the events of Dune: Part Two. Get ready for a whole new era! The star-studded cast also includes Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho (somehow!), Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, and Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke as the grown-up twins, Leto II Atreides and Ghanima Atreides. And this is the part most people miss... these characters are incredibly important to the overall Dune saga, and their presence in Part Three suggests a deep dive into the later events of Dune Messiah.
Denis Villeneuve is back in the director's chair, co-writing the screenplay with Jon Spaihts. The film draws its inspiration from Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah, published in 1969. For those unfamiliar, Dune Messiah explores the consequences of Paul Atreides' rise to power and the challenges he faces as a messianic figure. It's a much darker and more introspective story than the first Dune novel.
Mark your calendars! Dune: Part Three is currently slated for release on December 18, 2026. A long wait, yes, but if Pattinson's comments are anything to go by, it's going to be an experience unlike any other.
