This year, however, the focus is solely on training, with no matches on the agenda.
What makes this pre-season camp particularly intriguing is the seamless blend of tradition and innovation. The training base in Cascais, nestled on Portugal's Estoril Coast, offers a serene environment for the players to refine their skills. The proximity to Lisbon, just 30 kilometers away, adds a touch of convenience to the idyllic setting.
Upon my arrival, I was struck by the efficiency of the setup. The equipment, abundant and meticulously organized, had already been transported by van, ensuring a smooth transition for the team. The staff's proactive approach, with a couple of members arriving ahead of the main party, showcased a well-oiled machine in action.
The accommodation and logistics were impeccable. The players and staff seamlessly transitioned into their routine, with dinner and a team meeting setting the tone for the days ahead. The walk along the Cascais promenade provided a welcome break, allowing the team to unwind and recharge.
The training sessions themselves were a testament to the club's commitment to excellence. The kit team, coaching staff, medical professionals, and strength and conditioning experts all played their part, ensuring a seamless and productive training environment. The weather, a pleasant contrast to the recent heatwaves in the UK, provided the perfect backdrop for the players' efforts.
